Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a little birthday getaway my husband took me on up the California Coast. We spent the night in Morro Bay and I got up early to bring my camera.

Time

I got up before sunrise to head down the the beach and was richly rewarded with an empty beach, beautiful light and some awesome sandpipers to keep me company!

Lighting

The golden light of early morning usually has a pretty magical quality about it. Very much worth getting up at 5:00 am!

Equipment

Canon 5Diii with a 24-70 f/2.8 L lens. I brought a tripod, but gave up using it by the time the sun came up.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the composition of the rock rising up on the shoreline and the way it reflected in the water and the engaging birds along the shoreline.

Editing

This was pretty minimal post processing for me. Just ran an action that improves curves and contrast and a wee bit of pop that I run on most of my images and created myself.

In my camera bag

My canon 5Diii, Canon 70D, my go to lenses - 24-70 2.8 L and 70-200 2.8 L - and my 16-35 L and my 50 1.2 L = all Canon lenses. I also have a fun set of lensbaby lenses and some Canon flashes.

Feedback

Be willing to get up early - or stick around at sunset for the beautiful Golden light. Think about your composition. And shooting during the off season (this was in January) helps with crowds!
