Location
I took this photo in my back yard in Alberta during the summer months.Time
This was taken in the evening hours during the summer hot days on the deck.Lighting
I kept my white balance at Auto and my ISO at about 400. It was taken on the shadow side of the house.Equipment
I used a fixed lens Fuji S100FS camera. I did a usual safe ISO setting of 400 and an Aperture of f/5.6Inspiration
This is Walter the pigeon. While we were putting in a patio, this pigeon showed up looking all scruffy and sickly. We fed him some bird seed that we put out for the sparrows, finches and other birds that visit the yard in the summer and he perked right up. Walter came each day and sat on our house or sat over our deck when we were outside. I was able to catch him looking down at me when I was sitting on my deck. I love the heart shape of his beak, and the deep purple color of his feathers.Editing
I only cropped the photo and lightened it a bit and boosted the color of the blue and purple of his feathers. In my camera bag
I always carry around my camera, lens cloth, and extra battery even if I sit on my deck to enjoy the summer heat.Feedback
I did hands on shot to capture any movement of the pigeon. I took the opportunity of the pigeon being over head looking down to give it an interesting POV (Point of View) for the photo.
