Location
This was taken at a local park in Calgary Alberta. A young owl looking down at me, where the parents set up a nursery right next to the parking lot.Time
This was taken later in the day. The day was clear which made for great set up.Lighting
I took this at the dark side of the tree so the bright day wouldn't affect my photo to much. I kept my ISO at 400. I tend to play it safe.Equipment
I use a fixed lens Fuji S100FS camera. I used a tripod to take this photo. I didn't want to mess it up after waiting a whole hour for the baby to turn around and look at me.Inspiration
I was at the zoo in the morning taking photos of owls that were just born there. Someone at the zoo said that new baby owls were nesting at a local park. So I packed up my equipment and headed to the park. I was happy to see they were just by the parking lot and the parents had three young chicks. I set up my camera on the tripod and waiting patiently for the baby to turn around. Other photographers were on the other side of the tree but I felt the angel was all wrong. I was pleased when the baby turned around and looked down at me, perfect chance for a once in a lifetime shot. I have a bucket list of items I want to take photos of in my lifetime. This was one of them, and I was blessed to get the shot.Editing
I only enhanced the photo with a bit of color boost and sharpened it a bit to get the eyes to pop. I used a white fill to bring the color of the wood out a bit.In my camera bag
I took my camera with my tripod for this photo. Extra battery always.Feedback
Waiting around for a perfect shot is part of being a photographer. I am bad at waiting, but waiting for this shot was perfect which made for a great photo. This photo I am proud of. Check for a great angel and not always go where everyone else is. I have seen photographers clutter around together to get a shot that everyone else is getting and any tourist can get. Go for the unusual angel and walk around a bit for something different.
