Location
The shot was taken at Lion Sands Reserve, Sabi Sands, South Africa across a water hole.Time
The shot was taken at 430 PM as the sun was beginning to set.Lighting
The lighting was harsh and bright.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D and a Canon 400 DO with 1.4x. The shot was hand held.Inspiration
There were a number of elephants at the water hole spraying with both dirt and water. This female was giving herself an afternoon dust bath.Editing
The photo was shot in raw, so in Photoshop there was adjustments made in contrast, sharpness and levels. In my camera bag
While in Africa I carry 3 camera bodies with 3 lenses. The lenses are 400 DO with 1.4x, 100-400L and the 70-200L. This combination gives me the greatest flexibility for wildlife shots.Feedback
Be prepared and take lots of shots ! You never know what gems will appear when shooting wildlife. This shot is one of them where I had no expectation of this outcome !
