Location
This was taken in the Sabi Sands Reserve, South AfricaTime
This was taken in the very early morning at daylight.Lighting
The sun had barely risen, the light was low. I was shooting with a very low shutter speed at ISO 1600 lens wide open.Equipment
Canon 7D, Canon 400 DO with 1.4x hand held, no flashInspiration
I love big cats and I love to get close ups of their faces. Given the lighting, I was lucky to get nice crisp shots of ultra close face shots.Editing
This is a full frame shot, so there was no cropping. I shoot in raw, so there was the usual, levels and sharpness done but nothing special. In my camera bag
Now I carry both a Canon R5 and a Canon 7D II. Lenses include Canon 400 DO with 1.4x, Canon 100-400L II, Canon 100-500L, Canon 70-200 2.8 IIi, Canon 70-300L, flash and other assorted smaller L lensesFeedback
You need to be at the right place ant the right time with a leopard that is comfortable with you being nearby. There are not a lot of wild places in the world where this can take place. Sabi Sands is one of those places where the big cats are both wild and habituated to vehicle's presence.
