Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. I am passionate about photography and sometimes during work travel I take the camera with me.This was one of those times.

Time

I was happily surprised of the outcome. This was in the morning while driving from my hotel to the workplace, around 9 am. It was beginning of spring and while I was driving I spotted a field with a lot of yellow flowers. I pulled, took my camera and went to the field, and walked through all the plants.

Lighting

It is typical to take photos from above, or same level of the subject. I took so many pictures but then felt compelled to do it from below and thought that brightness would need compensation and bracketing. I tried different takes and no compensation... this was (no bracketing) was the one I liked

Equipment

Shot with a Nikon D90, lens VR18-200mm f/5.5-5.6G, no tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

It was a very nice day, not so hot, not so humid, so I was enjoying the driving. From the distance I spotted the yellow in the fields and when I approached the area I did not hesitate to pull and grab the camera. I think it was that instinct.

Editing

Just a bit, brightness. It was 5 years ago... perhaps you can tell by the Exif.... It was a no brainer, the picture was taken very simple, using P.

In my camera bag

Nowadays I use a Nikon D800 and usually a AF s 24-70 2.8G ED due to work travel. But when I travel for leisure I take some filters, one Samyang 14mm 2.8, Manfrotto tripod, 2 batteries and cleaning tools. And when I can carry more, I add a Sigma 50mm 1.4 DG, a Sigma 70-200 and a Sigma 105 macro .. You know, this is heavy stuff for my age!

Feedback

Shoot, shoot, shoot... this picture is about simplicity, but more often than not we complicate the shooting. Spot the opportunity and shoot ... many times, angles...
