Sand Dunes are created by three factors: Sand ,High winds, and unique influence upon these high winds. There is a notch between Moquith and Coccasin mountains that causes a venturi effect which increases wind speed. The grains of sand are the effect of the eroding Navajo standstone giving them there color.
