This Lantern Spire or “guglia del tiburio” in Italian is one of the main features of the Cathedral that was erected in 1762 as designed by Francesco Croce. At the top of the spire is La Madonnina statue, designed and built by Carlo Pellicani in 1774. There is a tradition in Milano that no building is higher than La Madonnina. But the truth is that every time a building is finished, and it is higher than La Madonnina, a smaller replica of it is place at its top and then La Madonnina is still the highest point of the City
