This is the portal to the Kentucky Mine in Sierra City, California. According to the current owner "in 1869 the miners were walking to work when they saw part of a nugget . A small portion of nugget was uncovered by the rain. The miners quickly begun unearthing it. It turned out to be a 106 Lb. nugget. It was called the" Monumental Nugget" . This picture is the Portal to the mine. It is now a museum. It was taken from behind a wire fence as the mesh was difficult to shoot thru.

Hello and thank you. I had just finished a book about this mine. It was a hard shot to get as there was wire mesh over the window. So I had to open up the lens more than I would have nornally to taken this shot.
