The Historical Parade before the Football Tournament (in Italian language "Sfilata del Calcio Storico Fiorentino) is done before the game that has been played since the XIII Century. The sport discipline reenacts a game called "harpastum" that is considered the father of the football (soccer), but in reality, it is mostly similar to the rugby. This parade is staged by hundreds of Florentines dressed in antique costumes and represents all the groups of the ancient society (soldiers, politicians, women, musicians, priest, etc.) The parade and the game are part of the celebration of the day of St. John The Baptist who is the Patron Saint of the City, whose day is celebrated on 24th June every year.
