The sun glints off the corrugated sea surface, a fir tree bends to the gusts. A great moment to be alive, swept up in nature. This is an iconic kind of Canadian image, painted and photographed in many ways, many times, but that does not make it a waste of time to photograph. I personally experience the rush of the moment and find an angle, select what will be in the final frame and later work in Lightroom to coax the very contrasty digital image into a balanced communication. Finding that balance within the lights and darks, orchestrating the whole production, provides an opportunity to move forward from the original experience, the take, and give that a more complete meaning for myself and hopefully for other viewers as well.
