Many Buddhist temples located on norther shores of the Yangtze River are set in spectacular locations, with steep stairs leading to high areas of cliffs and natural shelves. Often small temples can be found on the highest picks of rock formations, high above the river gorge. Efforts are underway to restore those places to their former glory, including river access points and safe paths leading to the temples. One could spend many weeks exploring the area, but special permit may be required.
