Behind The Lens

Location
The picture was taken at the International Air Show in Rochester, NY on May 24, 2015.
Time
It was 3:30 pm. Almost end of the show. Some people already rushing towards the exits. It was going to be the last overflight of the Blue Angels.
Lighting
The weather was perfect so far but by now, the clouds started moving in. It became hazy and the sun was dimmed. The colors were gone and everything become kind of monochromatic. I thought 'what a waste', but anyway decided to take my last shot of the day.
Equipment
That day I was shutting 'free hand' with my Canon 5D Mark II. I was using a 100 mm, f 2.8 Canon Macro lens, the longest lens I have in my possession. I had attached a mono-pod to the camera, collapsed and sticked under my arm to assure a shake-free shot and a free movement
Inspiration
As the jets were climbing up, I have noticed a smoke trails contrasting against the clouds. I waited till I got the planes down enough, before I lost the tip of the smoke trail in my viewfinder. A second later the planes separated and the show was over.
Editing
It wasn't until I got home, that I realized I had a good shot. I wanted to somehow emphasize a speed and energy of that maneuver. I processed picture in the Lightroom 5 using my standard process flow: cropped, tilted to the right, corrected chromatic aberration and the lens type, adjusted exposure to darken the scene, used adjustment brush to add clarity, converted to B&W, used color sliders (yes, color sliders) to bring more texture to the monochromatic clouds.
In my camera bag
My latest camera bag is a Lowepro Slingshoot Ege 250 AW. It holds my Canon 5D Mark II with Canon 50 mm, f 1.2 lens on it, and the additional 100 mm Canon Macro, one extra battery and charger, memory cards, lens cleaners, a remote control and a polarizer filter. The camera storage compartment zippers are in the back and there is a narrow deep pocket for essentials like passport, wallet, car keys etc, very, very handy on international travel when a street theft may be a risk. Another pocket holds a mini umbrella and super-light wind jacked. Outside I attach the small Manfrotto tripod and there is pocket for a bottle of water.
Feedback
My advice is to never give up opportunity to take a unique picture, even if it seems to be an uninteresting shot. Most of my pictures are post-processed to extract the essence of my vision of the final result.
