Waiting for the ferry, rain pouring down, windshield covered in raindrops - quite typical of winter and the scene outside - the fishing dock, the scarf of cloud, the dark headland, tree covered mountains, is so representative of our West Coast. So, the question is do I get out and frame up a clear shot or simply shoot through the windscreen, Which is closer to reality, and which reality is important here. I choose this time to shoot what I experience, what seems visually true to me, and also what reflects the common perception of coastal folks at this time of year. A perfect photograph is negotiable, is a matter of opinion, not just a set of rules.
