The hearty Icelandic Horse is a breed that has been pure for over a thousand years. Their shaggy coats render them tolerant of the island's weather, and they stay outside year-round. A stocky creature, the horse is pony-like, bearing a friendly, furry face rather than the chiseled angles of an Arabian. They're beautiful, with thick rock-star manes billowing in the strong wind, and standing humbly and stoically in their beautiful homeland. The horses on this particular farm live next to volcanoes and Lake Þingvellir (the largest natural lake in Iceland) in the rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are drifting apart.
