Thanks to all for the comments. I was slowly moving so I'd get the tree stump behind them for greater contrast with the background. Both joey and mother barely noticed me... until one of my friends shouted out to me. The joey turned... and this is the shot that happened there. It was only for a moment, then they both hopped off.
