Grey Heron Fishing

Photo I took of a grey heron fishing in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Natural Wildlife Preserve near Sunset Beach, California. The variety of blue, grey, and white colors of these birds are vivid, and their slow-motion movements as they look for small fish in the shallow water seems like a fascinating slow dance, or like avian tai-chi. Although this species is not yet endangered, there may come a time in the foreseeable future when, like so many other species, they are so rare or extinct that photos may be the only evidence we have of these magnificent birds.
