While I think this is a lovely photo, I have a problem with it. It seems that photography taking place on railroad tracks is both illegal in most places and dangerous everywhere. I was a bit dubious when I first read a warning at a photography website, but then a school teacher friend on the other side of the country happened to mention that one of her colleagues was killed by a train while photographing. I think it would be wise for all of us to be aware of this issue. Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was Taken in Hunter Texas, Just outside of the beautiful city of San Marcos. At Rileys Tavern, which is the oldest in the State.Time
I remember getting to the Tavern early to check out possible shoot spots based on Natural lighting. I found this spot on the tracks and noticed the sun was casting a great shadow through the bridge rails around 2pm. By around 3pm when we got to this spot the shade was perfect, and we managed to get this awesome shot. One of my favorites ever.Lighting
This picture was done with no artificial lighting, we just timed our day, and watched the shadows. All natural lighting for this one.Equipment
At the time I was just really getting my Photography started again, so I was using my starter camera which was a canon EOS Rebel T3. with a UV filter and Circular polarization filter.Inspiration
I wanted to really get into the Rockabilly/ Pinup style photos, since that style is a big draw around our area with the local College students. So I called up a couple friends of mine who both seemed to be the perfect fit for this, with their Style, attitude, and Tattoos !!! It worked out perfect and has been a good success since, and my business has increased.Editing
not really, I used my editing program to slightly correct the exposure, and that's it. The natural sunlight did the rest. it was awesome !!!In my camera bag
The one thing i do not go anywhere without is my Business cards, Handed out about a dozen this day at the tavern to admiring people who watched us shoot all around the tavern. I also am sure to always carry a Waterproof case for my camera, in case of rain, Multiple filters, a spare battery, my 75-300 mm lens, and a link cable to hook up to my laptop for instant transfer and viewing.Feedback
If you love rustic looking pictures, or are into the Pinup or rockabilly styles, then Central Texas is perfect for you. make a trip down and scout around. The San Marcos, New Braunfels, Seguin, area is beautiful. I would highly recommend cruising the internet for sample ideas, even if you don't use the ideas, you may gather something from each to create your own take on the style. aside from sites like pinterest, you can also find some fantastic Rockabilly/ Pinup images on Stock photo sites, and of course Viewbug has an amazing mix of photographers who have shot the style, and the work is amazing !!!
