This is what Michelle had to say about her winning selections:

"All of the images are beautiful and there are some incredible talents who contributed to this contest! When I was searching through the finalists I looked for images that jumped out at me and grabbed my heart. Composition, story and post processing were important factors in my decision on naming the Grand Jury Winner and Runners up. I looked for a portrait that told me something about the subject. Composition, lighting and color of the processing should all tie together to create a cohesive image that is compelling to look at.

The winning image is a beautiful portrait of a red-headed young woman. Her freckles and daisies in her hair tell me of youth and a late summer evening. Her expression, pose and the moody post-processing gives the image tension and elicits an emotional response from the viewer. I love everything about this portrait.

The Runners up selections were all equally compelling portraits in my eye. The young girl in the snow is holding a small bird, and I can feel as though I am right there in the snow with her. The cool-toned processing, the added snow and lighting all tell a beautiful story. The Holi Man is an amazing moment captured. The cloud of smoke across the frame is what takes this from ordinary to amazing. Finally the street portrait of a woman by Yannick is a gorgeous capture. A fleeting moment caught at just the right time."
