The photo was taken early in the morning while walking around a path in an open field on our property. I was attracted to the green colors of the tree branches, the green background and green reflections in the droplets. The droplets of water were seen at eye level which made it easy to compose and take the photo.Time
The photo was taken in the spring on a cloudy bright day on May 23, 2008 at 7:52 AM.Lighting
The morning was cloudy bright. It had rained overnight. A perfect time to look for water droplets.Equipment
In 2008 I used a Canon EOS 40D body with the EF-S 60mm F/2.8 macro lens, handheld, available light.Inspiration
I like taking photos of water droplets. I look for patterns, colors, and interesting reflections in the droplets and overall composition of the photo. In this case it was the color green that caught my eye.Editing
I used Lightroom 5 to bring up the whites, darken the blacks, add clarity, and sharpen. In my camera bag
oday I use the Canon EOS M3 with the Canon EF-M 22mm f2 STM lens, and Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 STM wide angle lens and with my older EF Canon lenses (using the M3 adapter). I also use the Olympus TG-3 and Canon SX50. Having arthritis in my fingers I am forced to use lighter weight cameras. My older EF lenses have to be used on a tripod. I like the three cameras I use today. The M3 for its ASPS sensor, the same size as I had with my 40D and 7D Canon SLRs which I no longer use. The SX50 for it's wide range of telephoto options. I particularity like using the 1200mm zoom with the extra button on the side for additional stabilization. The adjustable LCD screen is very handy. The TG-3 is when I want to do one-hand-holding-the-camera captures, such as following bumblebees as they move from flower to flower (camera set a SCN Sports at 4X with burst speed). TG-3 was also very helpful in wet conditions like on a Zodiac boat in the arctic ocean when I wanted to take photos of icebergs. The TG-3 also has an awesome microscope setting where I can do high mag photos and focus-stacking.Feedback
Go out on a cloudy bright day after it has rained. Look for droplets and photograph using a macro lens. Take lots of photos and enjoy exploring the outdoors.
