Location
The photo of the oyster bar and grill was taken in August 2018 on the Homer Spit - a 4-mile spit that extends out from the City of Homer, Alaska into Kachrmak Bay. The image was taken as part of a photography workshop led by noted National Geographic photographer Sam Abell.Time
The image was taken at sunset. During the summer the sunsets come later into the evening and last quite awhile. Sunlight reflecting off the clouds makes the whole sky seem on fire.Lighting
As I mentioned earlier this photograph was taken as part of a workshop with National Geographic alumnus Sam Abell.Equipment
The photography was taken handheld with a Pentax K-1 using an f2.8/24-70mm lens.Inspiration
The inspiration for the photograph came from the brilliant sunset, the darkened tree and building and (if you look closely) the neon exit sign on the top portion of the building.Editing
Very little post-editing work - just a few adjustments within the camera raw module of Photoshop CC.In my camera bag
My camera bag always contains a cable release, three or four lenses, depending on the type of images I am making, and various ND and CP filters.Feedback
As long as there is light in the sky, keep your camera close at hand. I was eating at the oyster batt when the sunset hit. I was out the doors fast and snappping my camera shutter button.
