Location
This picture was taken at Ammerdown Park near Radstock, a few miles from Bath UK.Time
As the long shadows suggest, this was taken towards the end of the day in Autumn/Fall in the golden hour. I love this time of day, and prefer to have the camera on manual to give me maximum control of the exposure ( this image was shot at ISO100 f/5.6 aperture and shutter 1/80).Lighting
The low sun coming from the left of shot gives a warm colour to the image. I didn't need to adjust the lighting - I simply saw the potential and captured it!Equipment
This shot was taken on a Sony A230 fitted with an 18-70mm ZoomInspiration
I find trees are an endless source of inspiration for me - and I enjoy capturing images in all the seasons as they have a beauty throughout the year. They speak to me of longevity, permanence, stability and strength.Editing
I always take my photos in RAW so that I have the maximum scope for refining the image in post-processing. I use Photoshop (or Lightroom) to make adjustments to the exposure. With this image I increased the contrast and tone.In my camera bag
Since taking this shot, I've upgraded to another Sony DSLR: an Alpha 58. I keep it attached to a Tamron AF 70-300 Zoom lens (and a Sony 18-55 Zoom SAM II in the pocket of the Toploader case for the wider shots). I prefer to use a polarising circular filter for most of my landscape shots, but otherwise tend to travel light.Feedback
Mostly I take my pics handheld, using higher ISO in lower light to enable faster shutter speeds. This gives me more flexibility to respond quickly to changing conditions, although I do sometimes carry a lightweight tripod. The power of this image is in its composition, and I do take as much time as needed to find the best angles and framing is an important aspect of this.
