North Coast of NSW, very dry and praying for rain. Storm approaches and using OMD em10 mk2 with 'inbuilt' Dramatic filter snapped two of the horses who wandered up for a scratch... The rain came about 30 minutes later. No post image manipulation

Behind The Lens

Location

Lucky to live on acreage, inland on the mid-north coast of NSW, the paddocks are surrounded by big open sky which constantly changes and colours so many stories.

Time

Taken in the late afternoon Christmas Eve (our summer). Most importantly, sitting in the wings of an approaching storm, common this time of year, giving it's special tones. Using an inbuilt HD filter to emphasise the gathering storm clouds

Lighting

Other than Mother Nature's generous lighting, the OMD in camera 'dramatic' filter was applied, delivering the HD effect.

Equipment

Olympus OMD EM10ii body with an Olympus 14-42mm pancake zoom (kit) lens used handheld. A Hoya uv filter screw mounted to the lens. Taken at 1/160 sec at f 5.0, iso 200 at 14mm.

Inspiration

The light, the atmosphere and the gathering of the horses begged it. The nearest horse Magnum (or Galileo) also loves the attention.

Editing

The image was jpg and came straight from the camera, having said that Olympus cameras have in camera filters and their 'Dramatic tone 1' was applied.

In my camera bag

An OMD camera body with the 14-42mm Oly lens with a remote release cable, spare battery and a cleaning cloth. Minimal baggage!

Feedback

Use natural light and weather conditions to emphasise the subject and atmosphere. Always have your camera on hand but above all don't be afraid to come back without a photo. Enjoy what you see and do, the photo is an extra benefit.
