Congrats on your win (again!) on this image, Truc!! I guess that last min, no sleep trip down to Canyonlands was well worth it! ????

It's in Canyon Lands, Utah. Unfortunately people posted the route on the internet...

Location
This photo was taken at False Kiva in Canyonlands National Park. This spot is a protected site and it's called False Kiva because it is not known if any spiritual ceremonies were performed inside it.This place isn't difficult to find or hike. However, over time, the remains have been impacted/damaged by visitors. In the spirit of 'leave no trace', we should do our best to leave these sites undisturbed so that future generations can also enjoy and capture them as well.Time
This photo was taken at sunset. This was my third attempt at getting this shot as the weather and conditions did not cooperate the prior two times I attempted this shot.Lighting
I drove from Salt Lake to take this shot and a dark storm developed as I drove down. I was concerned that the lighting wasn't going to work out as the dark clouds hovered above this spot. Luckily there was a break in the clouds as the sun began to set and a beautiful warm glow covered the sky and Canyonlands.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D800 with a 16-35mm f/4 lens at 16mm. I used a Lee FIlter 3 stop ND grad to better mange the dynamic range in the shot.Inspiration
I had seen this shot many times before on social media and was determined to tick it off my bucket list. To add a human element for scale I shot it with myself standing on a small ledge at the edge of the Kiva.Editing
I shoot in RAW and post process in LR/PS. I do 90% of my adjustments in LR and use PS to blend exposures and finish images with NIK Color Efex. Someone asked if I 'photoshopped' myself into this shot and I can confirm I was standing there! I did however, blend multiple exposures together to get the lighting effect I wanted. In my camera bag
As a landscape photographer, I love to shoot wide and accentuate the foreground. I use my 16-35mm on the majority of shots. I also use a 24-70mm f/2.8 when I need additional reach and a 70-200 f/4 when I want to shoot details or compress a scene. I also use filters a lot to manage the dynamic range in a scene or to achieve a longer shutter speed or to cut glare. A tripod and simple shutter release cable are also critical. Specifically for this shot, I wanted the alcove to frame the shot. As you can see even at 16mm on a full frame, I wasn't able to capture the entire alcove.Feedback
Persistence pays off. Light and weather conditions don't always pay off and you have to be willing to try and try again sometimes in order to get the shot you envision.
