Wow, this is incredible! Such a small human subject brings this whole photo into perspective. Powerful.

Location
This photo was taken at famous surfing spot Windansea Beach in San Diego, California.Time
This was towards the end of the day. Not quite sunset but the sun was low enough to cast some shadow and give some transparency through the waves.Lighting
This is all natural lighting. What I really like is seeing how the light struggles to get deep in the water. With the reefs underneath theres alot of bubble aand crushing water just underneath the surface. Gives the texture a bit of depth.Equipment
This was taken with a new DJI Phantom drone. A great tool for for catching unexpected angles in a fun, simple and safe way.Inspiration
I have often watched and photographed the local surfers at this famous spot so when I got a drone this was one of the subjects I first wanted to shoot. What I love is the texture creates by the crashing water. It fills the composition with a great natural element. And along with how complex the texture is there is a surfer going right through it and owning the moment.Editing
Post processing was simple on this one. Just some basic contrast, color, etc.In my camera bag
Im a Canon shooter with a 70D, 6 lenses of different types, my drone, lights and a variety of other gear. My interests in photography are in a variety of genres so my gear is equally as varied.Feedback
While often times we can imagine what a shot would look like from the ground with a regular camera we really dont have the experience to imagine what certain angles and subjects look like from the air. When you get a drone dont ahy away from the tired photo spots. Revisit them and explore from the air and youll most likely find new angles and interests. Aerial photography really gives the old spots some new life.
