Location
This photo was taken in London during a photo walk along the northern side of the Thames. The photo shows the underside of the Blackfriar's railway bridge going across the river.Time
It was taken on an unusally sunny and warm late afternoon in the beginning of SeptemberLighting
It was a very sunny afternoon, but the underside of the bridge was not really exposed to any direct sunlight. So I used an ISO setting of 640 and the shutter speed was 1/60 of a second at F 4Equipment
The camera I used for this shot was my Sony NEX-7 and the lens I used was the Sony 10-18 mm F4 wide angle lens. The focal setting I used was 18 mm. I didn't need to use any flash and the shot was taken handheld. I took in all 4 raw photos of this motive and this photo is from the one of these 4 that I liked the most.Inspiration
It is always inspiring to look for unusual camera angles, and this was a case where that worked out very well. It was a wonderful photo walk and the weather and the late afternoon really helped to get some good shoots along the river.Editing
Yes, I used Photoshop to do some changes in contrast, light and sharpness, and also boosted the colors a bit with the Perfect Effects plugin from OnOne.In my camera bag
Currently I have two main cameras with me in my bag. The first one is a Canon 7D Mk II and that is almost always equipped with a Canon 70-300 L-type lens. This camera allows very rapid focusing and shlooting, so it is the one I use for my street photography work. For slower shooting, i.e. landscapes, architectural shoots, flower shoots etc, I have the Sony a7R Mk II as my main camera. This gives beautiful colors and lots of pixels to work with. I usually bring two lenses for this camera, i.e. the 10-18 mm F4 wide angle lens that I used for this specific shot. The second lens I use is the great Sony 90 mm F 2.8 that I use for portraits as well as macro shots. In addition to this I often bring some smaller external flash for my Sony camera as well as a Manfrotto travel tripod. A number of spare batteries also of course for both cameras as well as memory cards.Feedback
My advice is to try to find new camera angles to shoot photos. Don't just go with the usual, common straight on photos when you take pictures of well known objects. Try to bend down, walk around the motive (if possible), anything that can add a new level of interest. And take lots of pictures of the motive to maximize the chance of getting at least one great shot.
