Location
The photo was taken in the town of Hanna Alberta Canada. I was invited to take part in a photography competition to help promote the Hanna roundhouse. as it has just received its historical designation as a landmark.Time
This photo was taken in the morning after the sunrise. On the way to Hanna I drove through some nasty weather and was thinking the day would be a wash out for getting some good shots of the outside of the roundhouse. Fortunately I got the storm clouds and not the rain that I drove through to get to Hanna. The Hanna Roundhouse,is one of the last C.N.R railway turn tables left in Canada. Hanna and its roundhouse was a hub of the C.N.R railway web of alberta with seven railway lines running into the town of HannaLighting
the lighting wasn't looking to good before the storm clouds came in and gave the dull overcast day a bit of life. I set of the camera at the end of the turntable bridge and this is the resultEquipment
This was shot with my Nikon D600 and a rented Nikon fish eye lens. I thought the fish eye lens would be a fun lens to use to capture and add to the roundness of the building, other photos from the day show off the fish eye lens in a more classic fish eye way.Inspiration
I was captured by the leading lines of the bridge and the curved lines of the round house building. I could see the photo in my head before I captured it in camera. Over all Im inspired to take photos for self enjoyment and for the joy of others. I also use my passion for photography to rase funds for my other passion and that is to erase funds from the sale of my photos to help fundraise so I can attend an Optical Mission to a developing country and dispense eyeglasses to those in need. Did you know an estimated 120 million are visually impaired because of uncorrected refractive errors. some times all a person needs to be employable is a pair of glasses.Editing
I did clone in some of the door panels that where covered in plywood to make it look more like it did and give the doors a more barn like look from top to bottom. other than that a bit of shaping, I boosted the red colour a bit and some dog and burn hear and there. I use Light Room and On One Photo suite for all my post two great programs. In my camera bag
Nikon D600 back up D300 20-70 mm f2.8 70-200 f2.8 . Format Hitech filters f stop gear bag tripod and on this trip my vintage Pentax 6x7 film camera.Feedback
My best advice is simple go out and capture experiment. Keep all your photos even the not so good ones, I go back and look at the bad ones and examen what I did and what didn't work. Learn from your mistakes and rejoice in your success.
