Location
This photo was taken in the Botanical Gardens of Ooty, Tamil Nadu, India.Time
It was a cold winter morning in the month of January and i was out in the gardens shooting an assignment for my academy back in 2014. It was around 7:30AM, just few minutes post dawn.Lighting
The lighting was quite low considering it was shot at dawn with an overcast sky and hardly any directional light. However, i couldn't have waited for the lightings to change as i knew with the first ray of sun on the flower the fly would disappear.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon EF 100mm/2.8 mounted on a Canon 6D body. It was shot Hand-held.Inspiration
Macro and close-up photography has always inspired me to take my lens out and start shooting, with spiders being my favorite subject. While exploring the gardens i came across this fly on a bud peacefully covered in the morning dew and i quickly grabbed my camera to take a picture. I knew i did not have much time as the fly could wake up any minute and i could lose the shot.Editing
Considering it was a low light shot, i had to slightly enhance the lighting in the picture, and thats about it.In my camera bag
I usually carry light weight when im out shooting and exploring with my Canon 6D in the bag so im hardly ever carrying a tele-photo. As much as i like going upclose with my subjects using the Canon EF 100mm/2.8 Macro, i also love shooting the big pictures with my canon EF 17-40/f4 wide-angle which i absolutely love for shooting landscapes and seas. Apart from which i always have the standard Canon 50mm always packed in my bag with some extra batteries and cards.Feedback
Shooting macro subjects can get really interesting because you can get up-close to all the details and patterns of the tiny life, but composing and lighting your subject can become a real challenge in an uncontrolled environment so i suggest you keep patience at all times and try shooting as many subjects, as many times as possible.
