I actually took this photo in my bedroom against a plain white wall!Time
It was in the middle of the afternoon.Lighting
I shot this image in my bedroom with just my ceiling light. The image was actually lit pretty well. I adjusted the lighting to get the darker look in Lightroom.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3100 for this image. I now shoot on a Canon 5D Mark II. Even though this wasn't shot with the best camera, it is still one of my favorite images I've ever taken!Inspiration
I love playing around with makeup and I love brightly colored eyeshadow. I had this idea about a girl that was crying in a dark place, but when she cries, beautiful rainbow colors run out like tears. Even though she's in a dark place, you can see there is beauty within her and when she cries, everyone can see her tears that match her brightly colored soul. She's the color in a dark world.Editing
Yes! I was editing in Adobe Lightroom when I took this image. I was just doing very basic editing at the time. I adjusted the shadows and brightness to make the image darker and then I boosted the saturation and luminance of the colors in the photo to really make them pop against the darkness. In my camera bag
A Canon 5D Mark II, a Canon 24-70 mm f/2.8L lens, and a Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8L lens.Feedback
If you want to use makeup on your subject in a way like I did, use a light foundation on the subject's skin to really pop the colors. The eyeshadow we used was by Coastal Scents. They have a lot of very vibrant eyeshadow colors. If you wet the eyeshadow brush before applying it, it will look even more intense. Use a variety of bright colors to make it interesting!
