This was taken at the Grand Canyon in June 2015. I am terrified of heights but I just had to crawl out on this rock and admire the beauty!Time
It was almost high noon when this photo was snapped. My husband and I were at the public viewing area across from the shot and I decided I would be the daredevil of the day.Lighting
The lighting was beautiful. As with most days at the Grand Canyon it is somewhat hazy, but that only added to the drama of the shot.Equipment
Canon EOS Rebel T3i, 55-250mm lens, tripod.Inspiration
When my husband and I were public viewing area of the Grand Canyon I noticed that there was a trail trail that lead to the rock I eventually perched on. It just seemed like a good idea at the time to stand out on the rock, a spur of the moment idea. After I got there the idea wasn't so appealing. :-) But I persevered by setting up my camera on the tripod getting the rock in the frame and the correct settings; I instructed (my not so handy cameraman, my husband) to just click the button once I came into frame!Editing
This photo took minimal processing. The white balance was a little off but nothing to dramatic to correct. In my camera bag
My Canon EOS Rebel T3i, 55m - 250mm Canon telephoto lens and my 18-135mm lens...I love this setup, easy to use and so spot on! I also carry my trusty Olympus OM-1 and my Zeiss telephoto lens - an oldie but what a goodie! Love to capture black and white photos with this gem. Just can't get away from the film camera. My first love.Feedback
The Grand Canyon is so special when it comes to photos. The time of day is of the upmost of importance depending on what you are trying to capture. Since the canyon is so hazy most days, I find that high noon gives you that all around spectacular shot, combining the haze, shadows and clarity of perspective. Of course sunrise and sunsets of the canyon are my favorites as well!
