Just love this! I've been at that barn and know what it's like to stand around with other photographers waiting for just the right moment! Kudos! :)

This reminds me of horsetail fall at Yosemite. When I was there 50 or 75 photographers.. I really love this shot as its what it is.. Great one!!!

Location
This image was taken at Mormon Row, Jackson, WY. (Antelope Flats Road) This is a prime location, drawing photographers worldwide.Time
Since this is a hot spot for photographers, I was there to stake out a spot about 45 minutes before dawn. After that shoot, (about an hour later) I noticed there was another barn across the road with a photo tour van parked in front. Of course I wanted to see what they were photographing. All the prime "real estate" was already taken so I just photographed the photographers in front of me.Lighting
Early morning sun with a little cloud cover over the Grand Teton mountains is optimal.Equipment
Canon 1DX with Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8 zoom. Gitzo tripod with Really Right Stuff ball head.Inspiration
Seeing the photo tour van parked in front drew my attention from the other side of the road where other barns were located. The photographers were waiting for the workshop instructor. I was surprised they were not taking pictures because the lighting was so good.Editing
Some fenceposts and a couple small bushes were cloned out in Photoshop. The rest was completed in Adobe Camera Raw, with increased saturation, minute sharpening, and added contrast. In my camera bag
In addition to the Canon 1DX, I pack a Nikon D800E with a 70-200 Nikon zoom, Canon 16-26mm lens. Normally try to have a range of filters...10 stop ND, 6 stop ND filter, circular polarizer and ND grad filter (soft). Hand warmers. Also have something to continuously remove lens dust. (Really dislike having to remove it in post...)Feedback
At the time of this image, would most of the time use the 70-200mm zoom for most everything. It's only been the last year I primarily use the wide angle lens almost exclusively for landscape shooting. The 85mm choice for this image was appropriate because I was more focused on the photographers who were immediately in front of me as opposed to the distal cabin/mountain scene. Stopping down to f/22 probably wasn't the best choice, but because the camera was mounted on a tripod, could use a slower shutter speed. It did allow a crisp, sharp image of Mt. Moran in the distance. Dress really warm.......with hand warmers! It was a good lesson for me that just because I couldn't get a front row seat, doesn't mean I couldn't find something interesting to shoot.... different and unanticipated. Perhaps that is one of the most exciting things about photography.
