Behind The Lens

Location

Under a highway along side a train yard in Ft. Lauderdale Florida.

Time

It was in the evening around 8pm just about sunset. I'd have to say magic hour

Lighting

Lighting was three strobes on location powered by a small generator. Background light, Back light on her and a key front light with a reflector fill on the opposite side.

Nikon D200, Nikon 60mm lens, three strobes, fill card,

Inspiration

I was working for a company called Playtoys Customs Inc that sells custom auto and cycle parts. The owner wanted hot looking ladies as part of the cycles and autos.

Editing

Yes, I converted the images from color NEF to black & white in Photoshop. I then worked on the tones from white to black as in the Zone System giving the image a solid contrast and 10 zones.

In my camera bag

I have three different bags depending on the job. 1 one body three lenses Nikon D7100, Nikon 60mm, Nikon 12-24mm, Nikon 180mm, bats, cards, flash 2 Nikon D800, Nikon 70-200 2.8 zoom, Zeiss 15mm, Zeiss 50mm, Zeiss 85mm cards, batts, flash, 3 Nikon D800 and Nikon D7100 70-200 zoom, Zeiss 15,50,85 Nikon 16, 60, 180, 300, batts, cards, flash, on this job I had bag 3 with my studio/location strobes

Feedback

Advice: take your time if you can, learn how to light people and sets, Watch your backgrounds and your depth of field. I believe I shot this with a 85mm lens which is one of my favorites for shooting people. Shoot, shoot, and shoot! try to remember what you did on the shoot. If you have the time take notes so you remember. The way of a professional photographer is the ability to re-create the same thing again.
