Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my front garden where I have been attempting to cultivate my green thumb.

Time

It was quite early on an April morning and the light was just great, definitely during the golden hour.

Lighting

The sun was still very low in the sky and was very shimmery with some small amount of steam / fog lifting away.

Equipment

I shot this with an Sony A7R with a Jupiter 9 85mm lens at f2 on an adapter. No tripod was used as I was lying on the ground!

Inspiration

To be honest, I was quite excited by the new (to me) Jupiter lens and was taking every opportunity to use it. As I was eating my cereal the light looked great so I thought lets just get a eye level, shallow depth of field shot of these attractive flowers.

Editing

Well, I do have a tendency to do a bit more post processing for my landscapes but for this one it was all in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I am trying to leave more at home when I go out and about but I tend to carry the A7R, a Canon EF20mm, Sony FE55mm and Sony FE70-200. I also usually carry at least one film camera, of what seems to be an unintended growing collection. Also usually have my 3 Legged Thing Brian tripod.

Feedback

Well in this instance I would say take get as low to the subject as you can, it really changes the perspective. Also to grab the opportunities as they come because the flowers will change, the light will be different etc. next time. Thanks!
