Location
This photo was taken on the second floor of an old mill building in Westford, MA.Time
This was taken late in the afternoon in the fall as the sun started to go down late in the day.Lighting
Natural light. This is a large room surrounded by tall windows with an abundance of natural light. A fog machine was used to capture light rays in order to create a surreal, celestial feel to the image.Equipment
NIKON 3200 Aperture: f/4.8 ISO: 400 Exposure: 1/125 Hand held NIKON 50mm prime lensInspiration
The theme for this shoot was "fairy tale". The model designed her own clothing and created the "look" for a day long themed shoot. Towards the end of the day when the sun began to drop, we utilized the natural rays of the sun and a smoke machine to capture an image with a "celestial visitor" touch. The fan was added to further disperse the light rays The model was standing on a chair to give the appearance of being taller.Editing
Post processing was limited. In my camera bag
I usually carry my NIKON 610 and a collection of lenses that includes: NIKON 70-200/f 2.8, 85,50,35 mm f/1.8 prime lenses, and a Sigma 10-20 mm f/4.5. SEKONIC 756 Light Meter. Strapped to bag is my 3 in 1 reflector and Westcott Ice Light.Feedback
Since the sun is a large source of light, you need to consider ways to disperse light rays entering through the windows. Experiment. Blinds from Home Depot can work. Consider this shot later in the day to capture the suns rays at an angle, this won't work with the sun directly over head. Get yourself a fog machine and blast a little fog to see what the rays look like, if you use too much, the rest of your shoot will be hazy. Have a fan to push the smoke around, you don't need lots of smoke. Get creative with costumes, the camera does not care if you created a costume with $10 worth of materials or $100, it only matters how it looks in the end.
