Behind The Lens

Location

Scarecrow Galleries Tattoo Company

Time

This was late into the night after 4 hours of sitting in the seat and have the outlines drawn on both arms.

Lighting

This was taken under the harsh lighting of the shop. There was a working light just off camera that the artist used to spotlight my arm.

Equipment

Nikon D600 with the 24-70 Nikkor lens and a remote trigger

Inspiration

I wanted to document the transformation and tattooing of my arms. I wanted to give some insight to the level of artistry that goes into a large scale tattoo.

Editing

Lightroom, changed it over to B&W with one of my favorite custom filters.

In my camera bag

I now carry a D610 with the big three lenses 14-24,24-70 and 70-200 Nikkor lenses

Feedback

In this case I needed to setup gear that would not get in the way or affect the artist working on the tattoo. It took some planning and working with the artist so that he didn't feel like I was putting obstacles in the way of his work. Ask they can only say no, but most will work with you as long as you understand they have a job to do and you need to place equipment as much out of the way as you can.
