Location
This photo was taken in a local county park "Deep Cut Gardens". The gardens themselves have quite a storied history, they grounds once housed the residence of Vito Genovese.Time
This was taken mid-morning in early summer.Lighting
The lighting was all natural, filtered through surrounding trees.Equipment
Camera:Canon REBEL XT Lens: Canon EF 70-300mm Aperture: f/5.6 ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/400Inspiration
I had been using photography as a sort of meditative process. I would wait until something caught my eye and then snap. This butterfly had been flying around for about 10 minutes before it landed right in front of me and stayed on this flower for about 2 minutes.Editing
Only a little cropping and a little color adjustment were needed. In my camera bag
I generally carry my Canon T5i, with 70-300mm 18-55mm lenses. I also carry a point and shoot (Canon SX100 HS). There are always extra memory cards and batteries floating around in my bag.Feedback
Patience is key when photographing insects/wildlife. You can't pose them so you have to wait and be ready to snap when they do what completes your vision. Be flexible and be prepared to snap the unexpected. You may go out with the intent of snapping butterflies and come back with great shots of dragonflies instead.
