Set this up on a side table in my living roomTime
Approx 12pmLighting
I pointed a small side lamp at the melting ice cubes and also held an LED light just above, which helped create the highlights on the ice cubes and melted water.Equipment
A Panasonic Lumix G1 camera with a standard 55mm lens. I mounted the camera on a tripod and used a shutter release for extra stabilityInspiration
I just had a picture in my head of an ice cube on fire and set about recreating it with the use of a small tea light hiding behind the ice cubes out of shot.Editing
I didn't actually do much post processing for this shot, except blacken up the background where you could previously see the light shining on the black board propped up behind. However, this was my favourite ice cube and melting water shot but it didnt have the best flame so I pasted the best flame over it. This way I got the best out of 2 different shots. In my camera bag
A camera body (currently Canon 100D), 75mm and 300mm zoom lenses, a selection of filters, a shutter release and a monopodFeedback
It's all about experimentation and creation, trial and error. Try close up shots of anything that's slightly out of place and try all different angles and various camera settings until you find something that works. Look for textures and try to bring them out. In my case it was the textures within the ice cubes and the melting water that contrasted nicely against the flame.
