I took this shot of this sunflower on my railing..I'm pretty short and I wanted to get as much of the pattern I could.Time
Actually, anytime of day is good for me. It's when instinct and whim are on high demand. This day, I NEEDED to get a photo of the pattern. This is a sunflower that hasn't been seeded yet, and I wanted to get the little flowers on top. It was a cloudy day anyway and thought it would be perfect for the yellow of the blooms. I wouldn't have to compete with the sun. So, it was probably around 3 p.m. during the summer. I had my youngest daughter with me at the time and we were experimenting with different angles and such.Lighting
I wanted to get as many of the pods in one shot. I usually wing it, it felt right. Know what I mean? Most of the time I shoot without a tripod. I've gotten good at keeping my hands still. It was a cloudy day so I didn't have to compete with the sun. No flash was used.Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel T3 with a Tamron 18-200mm zoom lens. No flash used I believe. Handheld shot, no tripod used.Inspiration
I love detail, anywhere you look, there it is! I take any subject I see and want to bring out the elemental properties of it. You can still see the sunflower seeds still in the flower..all in their places. I love the simplicity of the pattern and detail. Nature is full of surprises and I want to capture them all! Love what you do. It's important in our line of work, because it will show in the end. I'm always ready for something new, I get excited over a sunset or a snow laden tree. It could be I'm originally from Texas and we didn't have snow, but really. I just LOVE nature and want to share what inspires me.Editing
Oh yes! I do quite a bit, I have my own rhythm. I go through Picasa first, for deleting blurs. Then I go through Photoshop elements 11 for regular editing, contrast, lighting and such. Then the final step is Pic Monkey, where I do my copyright of my name and extra things I may have forgotten. I've had this procedure for as long as I can remember. I don't usually clone a lot..I like leaving it as natural as I can.In my camera bag
I have a sling camera bag, kind of reminds me of a large handbag. But I love it! I like to take an extra lens with me in case of a subject too far away. Usually my Canon Rebel T5 and my T3. Then my Canon 55-250 mm zoom is tucked away for such emergencies. Then I have a blower and cleaning cloth and fluid. I also carry an extra battery and charger. I will also carry a rain cover sleeve for bad weather..rain or snow and a dry cloth to keep hands dry.Feedback
I live in Maine and the weather up here during any month is never the same. We could have snow till June sometimes, so when the weather permits..always carry a rain sleeve cover..it's saved the day many a time! Shoot the subject in the center, the rest will fall in to place! Above all else, enjoy what you capture, love every minute of it! Happy clicking!
