Location
This image was taken in my basement studio shot against a black background.Time
This was taken around 2:00 pm in my basement studio.Lighting
I used two strobes, one with a rectangular softbox and the other with an octagon shaped softbox. The main light was front left and the other was right center of the model. I used black fabric to shoot against as the model was wearing white. Because the model's hair was dark I had to make sure that some of the light spilled on her hair to give her separation from the background. I also covered the stool she was sitting on with black fabric.Equipment
I used a canon 6d with a 24-105 lens off tripod. I use cowboy studio triggers to fire my strobes.Inspiration
This was a standard model shoot. I often frequent garage sales and estate sales to find clothing and accessories for the models. This dress had been waiting for the right model to come along to make the story happen.Editing
I usually start my post processing by sorting my shots in Lightroom and then taking the selected shot into Photoshop. In Photoshop I usually start by copying the image to a new layer. If any liquify is needed I usually take care of that first. I then create a selection of the subject so that I can add a different background. Once the image is put together with the new background and any other elements I will flatten and save the file as a tiff. I then open the image in Lightroom and test out the various filters. I may use one or several filters to get the "right look".In my camera bag
In my bag I carry a canon 6D, a 24-105 lens, a 100-400 lens with a 2x extender, a 50 mm lens and a Yongnuo flash. I also carry bugspray, snacks and water.Feedback
The key to a great composite is making sure that your selections are clean and precise. The lighting, shadows and colors are also key components to selling the composite. Practice, practice, practice.
