Nice composition. I see you have a bird in this one to add a little extra more in the composition.

Location
In Manistee Michigan. Located on the Northwest side of the state. This is the north lighthouse pier where the Big and Little Manistee Rivers flow out into Lake Michigan.Time
It was 7:50 PM on July 31st, 2014. I had walked down to the pier hoping to take some hand held shots of the Sunset. I really was not very confident that I would even see the sun when it got this low because of the haze and clouds.Lighting
It was hot day with the kind of haze over Lake Michigan that created a surreal look as the sun started to go down. The brightness of the sun was subdued and almost looked more like the kind of brightness you would see from a full moon. It crated a very defined "red ball".Equipment
I used my Canon 5D Mark 3 with the EF 70 - 200mm f/2.8 L IS 2 USM Telephoto Lens and circular polarizer. I climbed up the stairs to the walk bridge where there is a locked gate at the top of the stairs. Did not have my Tripod so hung on with one hand and stretched up to clear the gate.Inspiration
We own a cottage near y and I have taken many sunset photos with the lighthouse in the background. It was an unusual day with the haze and the ability to take a photo directly toward the sun this early in the evening. I was standing on the beach and pier taking some photos when I noticed the sun was going to line up with the lighthouse. I had to move quickly and then wait for people to clear out of the frame before I too a clean shot.Editing
I always shoot in Raw and use Lightroom for developing. I adjusted the white balance, reduced highlights, lightened the shadows and increased the contrast and clarity. Beyond that, I bumped up the vibrance, sharpened and used noise reduction. In my camera bag
I carry either by 5D Mark 3 or 7D Mark 2. When shooting landscapes, I would normally have my EF 70 - 200mm f/2.8 L IS 2 USM Telephoto Lens and my EF 25 - 105mm f/4 L IS USM lens.Feedback
Be aware of unexpected opportunities. I would have never expected to be able to shoot directly at the sun this early. As many times as I had shot pictures at this spot, I had not noticed the sun lining up with the lighthouse so perfectly (probably because it was normally too bright. I was just walking around looking for a different angle when I noticed the sun was going to align with the top and climbed up the stairs. I had to wait for 15 minutes or so in an uncomfortable position for it to happen. Several people have mistaken the sun as the moon.
