The photo was taken behind my house where I live in Charlotte, MITime
The photo was taken at 6:10pm in October, 2013. A rain storm had just passed through and the air was crisp and clean. I could see the end of the clouds coming so I grabbed my camera and tripod and headed down to the pond. I took a few photos but when the sun broke through the whole scene became so vivid and reflections came alive. It was magic at that point.Lighting
When I first got there the sun was still behind the clouds and it was rather gloomy and scary looking. If it was summer I would have been shooting right where the sun sets. As the clouds passed and the sun dropped I could see the clouds start to pick up color and I waited patiently until they moved over the pond and started to reflect in the water. It only lasted a few minutes because the clouds were moving fast and the sun was setting. I new it was a special moment. Thats what I love about photography - if I was not thinking in terms of getting a photo I probably would have just stood on the deck of the house and watched a pretty sunset but I would have missed the interaction with the pond.Equipment
This was shot using my Canon 5D Mark 3, Canon Fisheye 8-15mm f/4 L series lens and a Manfrotto Tripod.Inspiration
I own 55 acres and manage it for nature and wildlife. I'm always on the look out for a photo. On this day when the rain stopped, the wind quit blowing and the October air was so clear and crisp. The clouds are what initially caught my attention. The colors and reflections from the sun ended up being a huge bonus.Editing
I shoot in raw format and use Lightroom for processing. For this photo, I corrected the white balance, made tonal adjustments, more clarity than normal to bring out the clouds and added some vibrance and saturation. Beyond that I set the contrast to medium and used standard sharpening and noise reduction. In my camera bag

Just pay attention for opportunities to present themselves at unexpected times. If some one had told me that I was gonna witness that sunset an hour before I would have never believed it. It had been a crappy day. When it started to change I had to act fast. I feel very blessed to have such beauty right out my back door. It is rare that a day goes by that I don't find something worthy of taking a photograph of.
