I like to shoot macro early in the morning so I can get a low angle on the sunlight. Actually, I was looking for spiderwebs in the grass, and you can see them at that time of day.Editing

I usually carry 2 cameras, (Canon T3i) one with my macro lens and one with my Tamron 18-270.Feedback
Early morning is best for this kind of shot in my opinion. The light isn't too bright and comes in from an angle. I don't like tripods for these, since I shoot them from the side, not the top. I take an old shower curtain to lay on so I don't get so wet. The grass is soaking wet on the days when these show up the best.
