A photograph I took with my brother in the distance during a trip to Nova Scotia. This photograph was taken down by Peggy's Cove. With the lighthouse behind me, the view in the distance was an endless sky and rocks you could get lost climbing for hours. The day was cold but gentle. For 2 days my brother and I explored the area from here to there and I had even lost him for an hour because he was too busy photographing a miniature inuksuk he found further down. Later that day I went to the little shop and ordered some hot chocolate before setting up my equipment for a sunset shot of the beautiful lighthouse. A day I will always remember for bringing peace in my life. If only I could live in a lighthouse.

I took this photo in Nova Scotia at Peggy's Cove while there for a summer vacation with my family.Time
I loved this place so much I visited Peggy's Cove twice within my 5 days in Nova Scotia. I was actually there from maybe afternoon until sundown because I wanted to capture the sunset aswell. I was basically just exploring the area until then.Lighting
Both days I was there had clouds but the second day still had a blue sky so even making this image black and white you can see a bit of that contrast between the sky and the clouds. To be honest, most my vacations tend to be plagued with bad weather or clouds but on the upside it makes it great for dramatic skies and lighting.Equipment
I used my Nikon D300s with my 18-200 mm lens. Although I had my tripod with me, I didn't use it for this particular shot.Inspiration
It's a funny story actually. This place is so large and running around climbing every which way makes it such an adventure but also easy to lose someone you're traveling with. The boy in the distance is actually my brother who took off further down because he wanted to admire the waves. I was trying to find him when I spotted him in his element of admiration towards the skyline. That's when I decided to take the shot.Editing
I normally prefer taking photographs of brightly, coloured landscapes but because this day was cloudy and dull I decided to make it black and white. I wanted to emphasize the emotional feeling of standing in a simple landscape so grand you need to stop and stare and the skyline by drawing more attention to the boy (my brother) in the distance and making the clouds appear as though they are moving dramatically towards my subject. It was a post processing trial and error so I'm very pleased that people seem to like that effect. In my camera bag
Most the time I'm using my Nikon D300s and 18-200 mm VR lens along with my tripod when travelling. Extra batteries and memory cards are a must but when I know I'm photographing people, I bring my SB 900 flash.Feedback
I think a lot of people these days are so invested into getting the perfect shot whether it's for work, Instagram, snapchat or personal hobby but a lot of us forget to enjoy the moment. This is a shot of my brother enjoying his moment and appreciating the world around us. I wasn't thinking of how to make this shot post-worthy but instead I was inspired by nature and just simply took one shot. I find not only my most simple shots are most liked but also the shots captured with an emotional feeling. You don't have to have a good feeling. Sometimes even a deeply, haunting feeling makes up for a great, dramatic photograph. Basically, worry less about the image and focus more on why you think this is a moment worth capturing. Put your emotion along with your passion into it and people will feel it too as if they were right there beside you.
