Location
This was taken at the 14th hole of the Mount Edgecombe country Club in Durban, South Africa.Time
This was shot at about 7am in the morning.Lighting
Mist is a wonderful disperser of light but you need the sun up a little to be to get enough light through onto your subject.Equipment
Canon 5D mk III, 24 - 105mm, tripod, remote cable, manual.Inspiration
i had been up early and on my way to the beach for a sunrise shot. It was a cloudless morning and not looking very inspiring when I noticed mist coming in to the left a couple of km away in vicinity of the golf club I am lucky enough to live on. I had been waiting for the right light for this particular hole for a while and realised there might be a shot there with the mist. It took me a good 15 minutes to get back and by the time I had set up my shot the light was perfect to break through the mist.Editing
Because I had to under expose for the sun, I had to use some lightroom techniques to lift and highlight the green and lift the light on the wall slightly. In my camera bag
Now a days I have a Canon 5D MK III, Canon 16-35 f2.8, Canon 24-70 f2.8, Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS + 2 X extender. Speedlite 565, remote cable, tripod.Feedback
Brush up on your editing skills. When shooting the sun your foreground is always going to be under exposed to achieve the correct exposure on the sun. So you either have to blend two or three shots or at least just lift certain areas. Always use a tripod and remote shutter release so that you can shoot multiple exposures to blend later if necessary. Always treat your light editing with finesse and feel the light, sometimes less is more.
