Location
This photo was taken at Playa Encanto Beach in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.Time
This was taken in the late afternoon at sunset.Lighting
As for me, this is one of my favorite times for lighting a photograph. I love the natural light of the sun and how it warms up the whole photo.Equipment
I used my Canon 7D with my EF 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 IS USM handheld, at 100mm, 1/125 sec at f/9.0, ISO 500. I used natural light and no flash was used.Inspiration
I was out on the beach getting ready to take photographs of the setting sun. As the sun was setting in the background, my husband and our 6 dogs started walking towards me creating a wonderful silhouette and reflection in the wet sand, so I started shooting away. The shot wasn't planned but it was happy with the results.Editing
No post processing was done to this photo except for a little sharpening. All the colors in the photo are true to what I saw on the beach that night. In my camera bag
I have 7D Canon EOS and three lenses which are a EF 70-200mm 1:2.8L IS II USM, EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM, EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM A Tripod for landscape photography, Canon Speedlite 430EX ll, for those times when natural light is unavailable, two batteries and an extra SD cards with lots of memoryFeedback
With this photo I had to move quickly so I wouldn't lose the sun setting. I was there to take photos of the sunset so when this photo presented itself as a silhouette I did not hesitate to take the shot. It’s important to know your camera well so you can change modes and functions quickly when inspiration presents itself. I used f/9.0 aperture and used as high of a shutter speed as possible to get the picture in focus. Then I took several shots to get the best composition.
