Location
The photo was taken at a friends pool, as the model (my granddaughter) was freshly out of the water and about to jump back in. I wanted to get a natural shot with her cute little smile with the droplets covering her face and it worked out perfectly.Time
As I recall it was late afternoon on a hot Arizona day.Lighting
The pool was semi-covered which helped to some diminish some of the harshness of the Sun, with some help from a tall fence as well. Basically ample late day indirect lighting.Equipment
I was shooting handheld with my trusty Canon EOS 7D, with an amazingly affordable (discontinued) plastic body Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II prime lens which is my go to for portraits. No flash was needed.Inspiration
My children and grandchildren are my favorite models, because they are adorable of course and very cooperative since I provide treats. I constantly look for creative ways to shoot them in costumes, hats, etc, but this was one of my faves with nothing else needed but that face and those droplets.Editing
I always shoot RAW and run every photograph through Adobe Lightroom as part of my development process. I enhanced the darks and lights, and color tone and made sure I had no hot spots. The lips and eyes were saturated a bit more as well.In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon7 D with multi batter adapter, 300mm zoom lens, 50mm portrait lens, wide angle lens, and a macro lens. I bring a pivoting strap, ultralight grip head tripod and a Canon strobe, lens cleaning supplies, various hoods, remote shutter controller, and spare batteries.Feedback
Take your camera everywhere. I am always on the prowl at family gatherings because there are so many opportunities available. I tend to gauge my lens on the location. This was a small contained pool so the fixed 50mm worked fine but at a park I would use the longer lens and shoot away from the crowd.
