As with many estates and manors in Gelderland, the earliest history of Estate Warnsborn is unknown. The name Warnsborn is first mentioned in 1428 when it was leased as a heathland by Duke Arnold of Gelre to Johan van Postel. In 1465 it was owned by Rykart van Bloylant.
The name 'Warnsborn' means 'pure or clear source' and is probably derived from the sources present on the estate. The name Warnsborn was already used in the fifteenth century and then related to the Mariënborn monastery.
In 1929 was sold to the Thorhem operating company from Doorn, who wanted to build villas in the area. The Geldersch Landscape Foundation objected to this, which ultimately led, with the help of the government, province and municipality, to purchase the estate.
It is known that in 1941 Anne Frank and her family spent a short holiday
at the estate, just before they had to go into hiding in Amsterdam.
Today, the estate and country house is a hotel & restaurant.
