Location
The location of this photo came from the Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuary. Great Horn Owls are known for using Osprey platform that were built for nesting Osprey. This young owl had just fledged from the nest. As I was walking the Bird Sancturary and looking to the south where the osprey platform was located, I was looking for the owlet to be in the nest. I walked under and past the dead tree on my left to get to a better vantage point to see the nest. The owl was not located in the nest, so I turned to walk back to the west and notice the owlet was sitting in the dead tree right over where I have walked. And yes, I did walk right under it the first time!!Time
The image was photographed early in the morning of April 10th at 7:10 am.Lighting
This was an early morning shot when the sun had just come up over the tops of the trees. It was soft lighting.Equipment
My equipment of choice is the Nikon D 850 with a Tamron 150-600mm lens. The camera was handheld, my try of shooting is better done handheld.Inspiration
My inspiration for most of my bird photography is to capture birds in their natural settings. Capturing birds doing what they do normally makes for the best images. This young owl left the nest for the first time and was very curious about what was going on around him. As I watched and photographed him, he was very curious about what I was doing and his expressions were capture in many of my images of him.Editing
Most of my bird images are captured in RAW and processing using Adobe Camera Raw. I try and get my images of wildlife to be as natural as possible. In my camera bag
When out of birding trip locally, I usually do not carry a camera bag, I carry extra cards and batteries is the limit to what I have on hand. I like going light.Feedback
My experience with bird photography is to be patient and very quiet. Do not disturb the birds and do not call attention to your self. Capturing birds doing what they do naturally is long and tedious at time.
