Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of my grand daughter with her Jedi Knight outfit in a location across the street from our home. It made for a great backdrop.

Time

We set up to do the photo in the afternoon at 12:32 in a shaded area, she is sitting on a stool and three different shots were taken to do a stack in PhotoShop.

Lighting

This photo was done with all natural lighting, camera set on a tripod so that all photos taken could be stacked.

Equipment

Canon 5D MK III with a Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM lens. A Tripod was use so that the images taken could be stacked.

Inspiration

My grand daughter Amelia wanted to be Rey from the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Editing

To make the images of Amelia's levitation, I had to take four different images. The first of her sitting on a stool making sure that all of her outfit was not covered up by any part of the chair. The next couple of images were of the area withour her or the stool in it. The images were stacked in PhotoShop and the masked the stool out.

In my camera bag

I now have nothing but Nikon equipment, D810, D850. I always carry ND filter and flash to use as fill.

Feedback

The best advice when doing a stack photo, make sure you have a strong sturdy tripod so that stacking will be much easier. You need good even lighting that does not change much between shots.
