This photo of Michealla was taken in my home studio. This young lady has some of the most beautiful eye I have ever seen. Those eyes just pop. There was not many photographers she would let photograph her, but my wife and I became very close with her.Time
This was a morning shoot, I find that portraits are better done in the more before the cares of the day effect the model. They are more relaxed and convertible and it shows in the images.Lighting
My studio set up for this shoot was with a black backdrop and Novatron lighting 540 w set. I used three strobes, one main, one fill and one hair light. In this photo, Michealla was lying down facing the camera.Equipment
My equipment at the time was a Canon 5D MK II with a 24-105mm lens, setting was f5.6 1/100 sec ISO 200 and Focal Length was 50mm. Flash lighting from a Novatron flash set.Inspiration
Michealla wanted to do a Christmas shoot and this, not being a Christmas outfit, we shot a few photos just so she could get comfortable working with flash lighting. I would like to say it was something I was inspired to do, but this is one that just happened and turned out to be one of my favorite photos of the shoot.Editing
Was with 99% if my images, it was shot in Camera Raw, I used Adobe Camera Raw to do some processing, as with most portraits, I pull Charity down, I don't like harsh looking ladies, and last, I use Imagenomic Protraiture to add a little softness to her face, not to over do it.In my camera bag
I have made a big change in equipment from when I took this photo, I now have all Nikon equipment, Nikon D 810 and D 850. I was one of those that loved the Canon equipment because I did not think Nikon in digital was as good as Canon. But with the D 800, I felt that Nikon was now in the big league and I made the move. I was a Hasselblad 500cm and NIkon film photographer for year and loved film. I am a self taught photograph with the help from a very great mentor friend. I learned from him to process file and print photos in a darkroom and had one of my own. Bessler 45MX computer color head and enlarger.Feedback
One thing I have learned over the year is not to try and keep photography in a box. What I mean by that is to try new things, don't be a follower, but be a leader and try new things out of the norm. Experiment with setting and keep record of what you did. Never know what will happen.
